NYS 16 Hour On-The-Job Training

The 16-Hour On-the-Job Training (OJT) Course is a required, state-mandated training for all unarmed security guards in New York State. It must be completed within 90 days of employment after finishing the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training.
This course is part of New York State’s security guard licensing requirements under General Business Law Article 7-A, Section 89-n.

✅ Requirements & Certification
- Must be taught by a New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS)-approved security training school
- Requires 100% attendance and typically includes written assessments
- Students receive a certificate of completion, which employers and the NYS Department of State require to verify compliance
- This course is non-transferable—it should reflect actual duties and scenarios related to your job site or type of assignment
